The International School of Hamburg lays claim to a fantastic Performing Arts Programme which provides students with an opportunity to showcase their dramatic, musical and dance talents both in and outside of the classroom.
Two major productions are performed each school year: the Performing Arts Department stages a musical in autumn with students from grades 6-12 making up the cast; and a drama, open to students in grades 6-11, is performed in the spring.
There is a Tech Crew consisting of students from grades 9 to 12 who apply for a position. The Tech Crew is responsible for all sound, lights, sets and backstage management for the musicals, drama productions, talent shows, dances and assemblies.
The ISH Music Enrichment Programme (MEP), founded in 2004, offers music instruction, both individual and ensemble, on the school premises to students in grades 1 to 12. Weekly individual and group instruction is currently available on the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, guitar, bass, piano, drums/percussion and voice. Tutoring in Music Theory and Ear Training is also available. The instructors are all English-speaking, local musicians/teachers with impressive musical credentials. Please note that fees apply to this programme. An application form is available from the ISH Reception or from Mrs. Marjorie Patterson (MEP Co-ordinator) or from Garry Jones (ECAP Co-ordinator) in Room 003. Click on the Music Enrichment Programme page for further information.
The ISH School Band (grades 4 to 12) rehearses once a week and performs at assemblies, concerts and other school gatherings while the Junior School Choir (grades 1 to 5) and the Junior Rock Band (grades 4 to 6) also rehearse weekly and perform at assemblies, concerts and school gatherings.
We are pleased to be able to offer tuition in music theory leading to examinations offered by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in the UK. Please contact Mrs. Marjorie Patterson at ISH or at for more information on the different levels of instruction and to arrange placement in a class.
We are pleased to be able to offer a range of dance lessons for our students taught by a recognized instructor, Lucy Costelloe, a classically-trained dancer who is still performing as well as teaching: tap dance (P3 to grade 8), jazz dance (grades 1 to 5), primary dance (P1 and P2 students) and ballet lessons (grades P3 to 5).
