Welcome to Admissions

Dear Families,

Moving with your family to a new city is always a big challenge, and deciding where your kids should go to school is one of the most important decisions you can make. Here at ISH, we have almost all experienced what it's like to move to Hamburg for the first time, many of us from very far away, and our students from over 50 nations have all known what it's like to be "the new kid" in school. These combined experiences, enriched by the stories we bring with us, and our shared Weltoffenheit – openness to the world – have helped to create the diverse, welcoming community that we have today.

With over 60 years of experience in education, teaching staff from all over the world, a brand new campus with state-of-the-art facilities, and an extensive array of athletics, arts, and extra-curricular activities, not to mention fun (and delicious!) parent-led community events, we will do our best to support your family as you make your transition to this green, Hanseatic city that we are lucky to call home.

If you are relocating to Hamburg or have been here for a while, I would be happy to meet with you, show you around our school, and help explore the paths your children could take at ISH. Plenty of information about the admissions process, tuition fees, and programs taught in all branches of our school can be found right here on our website, but if you can’t find the answer you’re looking for or would just like to get in touch, feel free to contact me (in English, German, or French) just to chat about your situation or to set up an appointment.

Every family is different and has a unique story to share. It would be my pleasure to hear yours, and to offer whatever assistance I can along the way. Don’t be shy – I look forward to meeting you!

Best wishes,

Margaret Metzler

Admission Steps:

1

Schedule a visit

It is recommended to schedule a visit to the school to familiarise oneself with the facilities and the curriculum offered. There is nothing like “feeling” a school to know whether it will be a good fit for a family. Seeing students in action and meeting key administrators will help in your decision. Our Admissions Officer, Margaret Metzler, will show you around school.

2

Fill in the Application Form

Once you have decided that the school is the right fit, the next step is to fill in the online forms. Click here to access them.

3

Pay Application Fee

Applications will be assessed only once the Application Fee has been paid. The fee is non refundable and does not guarantee a space in school.

4

Submit all documents

It is important the school receives all required documents, including past report cards as well as any psychological/educational evaluation when requested.

5

Placement Testing

All students entering Grades 6 and above are required to take placement tests in both English and Mathematics. These tests are only for evaluation of a student’s level in these subjects. These tests can be taken at ISH or under supervision at a student’s current school.

6

Interview required for IB students

It is recommended that all students entering Grade 11 meet with the IB Coordinator in order to discuss subject options, and to better understand the IB Diploma Programme.  If it is not possible for a student to travel to ISH, a skype interview can be set up.
