IB Career-related Programme launches successfully

Taught in more than 200 schools in 23 different countries, the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP) is the newest of the International Baccalaureate curriculum frameworks. At ISH we already offer the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). We are proud that we are now able to offer the students in Grades 11 and 12 the opportunity to follow an individualized path that correlates with their strengths, interests and future goals. The CP Programme, in contrast to the traditional Diploma where six subjects have to be chosen from defined categories, allows students to enrol in specific subjects that interest them. They are able to choose a career-related study in a field they may wish to pursue in the future. The programme is coordinated by Mrs Claire Butler-Walker, and the career-related study options offered are:

  • Art & Design

  • Sports & Exercise Sciences.

In addition to this, three or four diploma courses and CP Core Classes are chosen, which are all necessary for the students to obtain their high school diploma and their Career-related Programme Diploma. In this first cohort, six students have decided to take this path and have chosen Sports Sciences & Design.

The Career-related Programme, which has a degree of flexibility, is well suited to students who have a high level of interest in a particular field of study and want to acquire a deeper understanding of that subject. The IBCP has a strong academic focus but also reflects a very practical approach that includes personal and professional skills courses and also reflective projects. The courses place an emphasis on critical and ethical thinking and on developing life-long skills for the workplace and or further study.

These development courses help the students to balance the theories they learn in the CP with the practical understanding they obtain from their internships and professional skills courses.  When applying for jobs and universities in the future, these students have the advantage of having gained, through an internship or course, a deeper understanding of the nature and requirements of a particular employment field.

We are very excited to be launching this unique programme at ISH and we hope that the CP will be a springboard for both personal and academic success.
