The weather could not have been better for ISH's biggest annual event. Our flag-wielding students were greeted by a crystal-clear sky when the flag parade started at 12:00. The school was transformed into a jovial scene that enhanced and truly depicted the spirit of our community.
The cafeteria was completely transformed to a stunning and colourful hall, with countries stalls (some with BBQs outside) from around the world offering diverse national cuisines. All very aromatic and mouth-watering festive food. This was in aid of on-going school projects which displayed their various worthy causes in the school foyer and Aula.
This year, the ISH gym turned into an adventure place with mini games organised by the different countries. Fish ponds, obstacle courses, free-throw shooting, nail polishing, face painting, henna tattooing and many more activities had students of all ages flock to the gym area.
The International Fair has one purpose. While it’s the most favourite of school events for bringing the community together, it is a fund-raiser for several worthy school external causes such as the “Kinderkrankenhaus Altona”, “Die Arche” and the "NCL Stiftung". The internal fundraising projects included the Sri Lanka and Tanzania projects for various schools in Asia and Africa, UNICEF Youth (a new ISH student led programme) and Kids4Kids.
Aside from the impressive array of national cuisines, countries also donated huge gift baskets full of goodies from their countries and the PTA in cooperation with ISH Marketing & Admissions presented a tombola which was sponsored by many ISH families and business firms mainly based in Hamburg. A whopping 750 prizes were on display and our motivated team of staff members, parents and PTA members ensured the smooth running of the prize and ticket stand.
A good amount of money that was raised through the Country Baskets, the Tombola, the food stalls and other activities will go towards ISH very own Dragon’s Den, an initiative led by the PTA that aids in enhancing facilities and acquiring new equipment.
The event was very successful with a huge turnout of people who enjoyed sumptuous food, games, socialising as well as entertainment to a variety of shows performed on stage. ISH students and parents also entertained us with traditional dances and instrumental music performances including little Emma from Junior School who wowed us with her piano recital.
A big thank you goes to the organisers of the event, the PTA, ISH staff, ISH families, Events Committee, students who volunteered and our well-wishers and donors. Only with help like yours, this event turned into the success it is.
