Embark on a voyage of learning

ISH bids farewell to Mrs. Ellen Gray and Mr. Peter Howard

ISH would like to bid farewell to our two esteemed faculty members who will be retiring this year, Mrs. Ellen Gray and Mr. Peter Howard.

ISH bids Ms. Ellen Grey farewell

Mrs. Ellen Grey
Junior School Teacher - Retired

Mrs. Gray has been with us for 23 years, and in this time she has been an integral part of the Junior School IT department. As an educator, she embraced and adapted new ideas and requirements to a teaching profession that is never static. As a teacher, she has proved to students and staff alike, that nothing is impossible. Her journey started long before the 90s, and at a time when computing was becoming not just an industrial hi-tech requirement but also a core item in the education sector. Her colleagues can map Blues Clues and Kid Pix, which led to Encarta and Mavis Beacon, which led to Purple Mash, and IXL – and now to coding, robotics and design, all made possible by her contributions, effort and zeal to establish and enhance the learning experience of our students here at ISH. Mrs. Gray has been part and parcel to contributing to our most positive aspects of ISH school culture, that of community service. She took the initiative to establish one of ISH signature projects, the Sri Lanka Project. This project took off soon after the 2004 tsunami that devastated many lives and left many children orphaned. Mrs. Gray led the project in many activities and events that raised funds and took the Sri Lanka Project students to work with the local pre-schools that were initiated to help children rebuild their lives. Mrs. Gray leaves huge shoes to fill and we wish her well in her new life in retirement.

ISH bids Mr. Peter Howard farewell

Mr. Peter Howard
Secondary School Teacher - Retired

Mr. Peter Howard, is also retiring after being here at ISH for 6 years. He taught Environmental Systems and Societies, Geography, Humanities, Theory of Knowledge and successfully introduced Economics at the Diploma level. He brought with him to ISH a wealth of experience from International Schools around the globe, and from a variety of teaching and administrative positions at those schools including IGCSE coordinator and Diploma Coordinator. His famous sense of humour endeared him to students and staff alike, which eased his ability to share and pass on his immense wealth of knowledge with great commitment and professionalism. He leaves behind a legacy of having been very generous with his time as could be seen in the his role as a UCAS advisor to students as well as taking them to various special excursions and conference trips like Spain, Scotland and England.

It is usually a sad time to see our best of educators leave but it is with our best wishes that we bid both Mrs. Gray and Mr. Howard farewell as they move on to their very well deserved time out and enjoy their retirement.
