The ISH Buddy System at work
Here at ISH every student is valued. A younger child is partnered with an older Buddy that then becomes a relationship as good as that of siblings. The ISH Buddy system works as a symbiotic relationship where the older students learn about caring for the other, respect, offering assistance and guidance in any form or shape, as well as being there as a friend.
The younger ones enjoy having older buddies almost like an older sibling. They can approach their buddies at anytime because they love having the connection, a sense of belonging, being cared for and doing projects together. They feel secure and safe at the playground when they see their buddies and feedback from alumni has informed us that some still talk about their buddies and keep in touch long after they’ve left ISH.
The ISH Buddy system has inter-classroom projects like making crafts, reading out loud for each other and sending wellness gift cards. A recent project was P3 and Grade 4 making lanterns together ready for Laternenfest, a celebration on the 11th November held in honour of St. Martin.
