Wellness learning experiences in remote learning
During remote learning, our ECC to Grade 4 School Counsellor, Zoe Andrews, has been providing optional daily wellness activities for students and families to try at home.
During these very challenging times, it is even more important to focus on our mission statement of nurturing ‘balanced lives’. The learning experiences are aimed at developing coping strategies to help our students and families deal with current everyday stressors.
Learning experiences are also based on the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’, a campaign in the United Kingdom to promote wellness, developed from evidence-based research.
The Wellness activities are fun and interactive. A weekly schedule will often include a focus on coping skills and calming strategies, mindfulness activities, kindness and gratitude, as well as fun screen-free activities for the weekend.
Every grade level gets the same activity, so that students can complete it as a family, or independently if they wish.
It has been lovely to see videos of the students, often also involving other family members as they complete the activity. Feedback from students, teachers and parents has also been very positive, here are some responses students have added to activities on Seesaw:
“I find everything you put helpful know I use it every day”
“Thanks for all of the great lessons I have learned so much!”
“Thank you so much for all the help this year it has helped a lot throughout this crazy time of Coronavirus.”
We also received fantastic parent Feedback:
“I wanted to thank you for all your help and assistance during this time, giving help with methods of coping with home learning and with Corona. My son is always happy to see your tasks. Sometimes he is not so upbeat and then he does your task and it really helps him to see the good and be happy for the rest of the day. Thank you so much for all your help.”
As we return to campus we will continue to focus on social and emotional wellness for students and families in class and online.
