At the International School of Hamburg, the phrase “Student Life” encompasses a world of possibilities for every child.
Our goal is for each of our students to feel a sense of engagement and belonging within the school community. There is no better way for this to become a reality than through the experience of being part of a team, a club, or an activity.
Our school Mission Statement refers to developing potential, fostering understanding, showing respect toward others, enjoying learning and taking personal responsibility. All of these critical attributes of a well-rounded learner are nurtured through the spirit of teamwork and cooperation which come with being part of a group that shares a common objective and a common set of values. Below are a few insights to what student life is about here is ISH.
Our After School Programme (ASP) is the portal through which our students gain access to a myriad of opportunities for self-development, new skills and just plain fun! Through this programme, a younger person can learn a new musical instrument (e.g. the Music Enrichment Programme); play a team or individual sport (see Athletics) for the first time; make a new friend; or discover a hobby that can become a life-long interest.
Students hold individual acts as well as collaborations of whole classes and mini groups.
ISH has a variety of service activities operating including many student-led activities. Students pursue service activities that they are passionate about and are able to see the progress and success through their actions. Here are some of the signature service projects.
ISH has a College Counsellor to give individual and personal advice as they search for prospective colleges/universities and careers in a variety of countries. ISH also hosts The International College Day is Germany’s largest independent education fair for English-speaking studies abroad.
One of the aims of our new website is to present ISH by telling real stories about our community. Here at school, we are very busy with events, academic pursuits and extra-curricular activities and key to that is to feature members about their extra-ordinary achievements and contributions to our community and beyond.
The ISH Alumni network is currently comprised of more than 600 ISH alumni around the globe. We encourage alumni to remain connected with the School today by sharing old stories and pictures in the Facebook Alumni group or by organising bi-annual events and reunions. With a perspective of the past, and an appreciation for the future, alumni inspire our students, faculty and each other.
