ISH joins the Running Out of Time relay

For Global Schools Action Day - a day for the schools around the world to unite and demonstrate how local events have a global impact- our ISH students took part in Running Out of Time - a global running relay organised in schools around the world on November 3nd, 2022 to raise awareness about climate change and the urgent need to take action to address it.

The relay at ISH was carried out by students from all grades who passed the baton from one grade to the next, and ran around the campus. Beyond the physical challenge, the relay was a symbolic one. It representing the urgent need for collective action to address the climate crisis before it is too late.

It was also the opportunity for students to learn about COP, the yearly meetings where world leaders gather to make key decisions about how we adapt to and try to limit climate change and people’s request from world leaders - namely:

  • To making sure everyone receives quality education about climate change and how to stop it,

  • To making sure that it is easy for people have an environmentally friendly lifestyle

  • To making sure that we limit global warming to 1.5 degrees and commit to net zero emissions and Introduce students to the concept of "Net Zero Emissions" and the 1.5 degree global warming target using the information resources.

Students also had the opportunity to record their own messages for COP 27 and share them on the Running Out of Time webpage. We also  invited our ISH community to join this global initiative by running, walking, cycling or moving for 27 minutes at 10:00 am local time on Saturday prior to the conference.

The next relay will cover 90,000 kilometers across 100 countries, culminating in a final leg in Bonn, Germany, just ahead of the COP23 climate conference (October 24th to November 17th, 2023). The event is expected to draw attention to the importance of climate action and encourage people around the world to take concrete steps towards reducing their carbon footprint. As we approach the COP23 climate conference, let us join hands and raise our voices in support of climate action. The time to act is now, and we are running out of time.
