Join ISH and our +150 Members of Faculty and Staff

We are building a team of teachers, leaders and administrative professionals to support the learning mission and vision of the school.

If you want to help shape our internationally-minded students into global citizens who lead lives of purpose and meaning, you have come to the right place. Our academic and co-curricular programmes nurture each child's social, intellectual, moral and physical development in alignment with our Missions and Values as the oldest international school in Germany.

From 20 different countries around the world, our teaching faculty and staff promote the ideals of international mindedness and learning as a joyous endeavour.Alan Knobloch, Head of School-

At ISH we foster a welcoming and collegial working environment where teachers support each other in a spirit of collaboration. We offer good working conditions in a state-of the art facility at the heart of Hamburg's green belt,  a regionally competitive salary according to the qualifications and experience and personal development possibilities. And of course, this is the opportunity to work and live in Hamburg, one of the world's most liveable cities.

ISH is a welcoming and inclusive community. As an International school, we love creating opportunities for our community members by connecting people from widely diverse backgrounds, perspectives and geographies. We also want to have a faculty that mirrors the diversity of our student body. So, being diverse and inclusive isn’t just something we strive for, it is who we are, and part of what we do each and every single day. We want to ensure that as a member of our staff, you feel ISH is a place where you feel safe, included, and that you have the opportunity to bring your unique self to work.

As such, all educators with the relevant qualifications and experience, including those who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of colour), educators with disabilities, LGBTQ+ educators, and others of diverse backgrounds, are encouraged to apply to join the ISH Community.

Professional development is a key element of ongoing teacher growth and training, and we hold the idea of life-long learning in high regard: ISH pioneered in Germany the coaching model of professional development in Literature and Math.MAHA FRANGIEH, Early years & Junior School Principal-

Our dedication to the Health and wellbeing of our employees

By placing health and well-being at the centre of school life, ISH is building the foundations for a strong, supportive, and sustainable community.

ISH has recently been awarded the “Healthy Employer” seal by the EUPD Research Corporate Health Alliance. This independent award is based on the Corporate Health Evaluation Standard (CHES), which looks at how organisations build structures, strategies, and services that support the health of their staff.

The award recognises the progress of our “I Stay Healthy” programme—a two-year project funded by Techniker Krankenkasse and running until July 2026. A steering committee of staff, leadership, board members, students, and parents, led by our Corporate Health and Wellbeing Officer,  guides the programme, which takes a broad view of health: student well-being is central to our mission, and we know that healthy students need healthy staff. The work focuses on three areas: nutrition, mental health (including digital resilience), and physical health. So far, this has led to workshops, training sessions, events, and podcasts for students, parents, and staff. A central learning database will soon follow, giving our whole community access to articles, courses, and other resources.
